Therapies

Snowflake School has a multidisciplinary team which includes Behaviour Analysts, Qualified Teachers, Speech and Language Therapists (SaLTs), and Occupational Therapists. The multidisciplinary team works together to develop goals around the pupils individual support needs. The multidisciplinary team meets regularly to review goals and update as needed. SALT and OT programs are integrated into each pupils individualised timetable and form an important part of the provision provided at Snowflake School.

“The therapist teams carefully use each pupil’s education, health and care (EHC) plan when organising provision. They also work with other adults to ensure pupils’ therapies are built into daily lesson activities. This helps pupils to achieve their targets quickly. Staff then set even more ambitious targets.” (Ofsted Report, 2023)

Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT)

Snowflake School employs a Total Communication approach. All forms of communication are encouraged and supported based on each pupil’s unique preferences. This may include vocal language, sign language (Makaton), PECs, or technology-assisted communication methods such as Proloquo2go.

Qualified speech and language therapist carry out assessments and individualised targets are developed based on the pupils needs. SaLT sessions are delivered weekly to pupils through either 1:1 or group sessions as appropriate. SaLT targets are worked on daily with the pupils 1:1 learning support tutor.

Occupational Therapy (OT)

Qualified Occupational Therapist (OT) and Occupational Therapy assistant (OTa) support each individual pupil to be successful in the school learning environment and beyond. OT’s at Snowflake School ensure each pupil is provided with activities and strategies that support access to learning activities and promote independence. OT’s use a variety of tasks and exercises in the area of self-care, work, and play to increase functional independence, enhance development, and reduce barriers to learning.
